• Konopiste Castle - a lovely hunting chateau is situated 45 km southeast of Prague. It was founded in the 13th century and it has become famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand d´Este, the successor to the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo in 1914 triggered World War I. • Karlstejn Castle - this large Gothic castle was founded in the 14th century by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor and is situated 35 km soutwest of Prague.
